Santa Ana Volcano

Look forward to some of the most incredible views of your life on this full day hike to the crater of the Ilamatepec Volcano. Also known as the Santa Ana Volcano, the Ilamatepec Volcano is the tallest, active and largest of the volcanoes in this region. With a height of 2381 meters (7000 feet) above sea level, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the breathtaking landscape along the climb to the crater. Due to the high altitudes, be prepared for the probability of clouds and strong winds at the summit. Once you’ve made it to the top, you’ll be able to see the crater itself and its stunning emerald green lagoon inside. From this point you’ll also be able to see breathtaking vistas of the Coatepeque Lake, Izalco Volcano, Cerro Verde and in the distance, the Pacific Ocean.

If you're in El Tunco and want to learn to surf, definitely take lessons with Wayo. I had always wanted to try surfing and decided to take a couple of lessons. Wayo is really patient and motivating, which was helpful as I was a bit nervous. Wayo also speaks English really well, which is super helpful. His explanations were clear and to the point, and he got me standing up on a board quickly. The other instructors are really great as well. They are always happy to give great advice and tips to improve your new skills. I definitely recommend learning to surf with Wayo or one of the instructors at his shop. It will be a highlight of your trip in El Salvador.
